I should like to start with a roll of honour:
Chris Beckett, Tom Brocklehurst, Timmy Cooper, Lee Dorning, Ben Farmer, Olivia Fletcher, Tom Fletcher, Ben Haigh, Solomon Hayes, Luke Hobbins, Tom Hunt, Cherry Matthews, Hugh Matthews, Chris Mulligan, Caroline Nicholls, Harry Purewal, Kris Reiman, Tom Sharpe, Charlie Snelson, John Taylor, Sam Weaving and Sam Wiggins.
They all took the challenge and entered the season's first club open tournament. It was a great affair with players coming from Wales and all parts of the Midlands. The Senior Final was won by Lewis Williams, the current Welsh Junior number 1, in probably the best final seen in Leamington for many years. Chris B, Timmy, Lee, Ben H., Hugh, Harry, Kris, Tom S and Sam Wiggins all won trophies, in the case of Harry and Lee at their first tournament attempt.
All who saw it were thrilled at the way Luke Hobbins thrashed one of Birmingham's top players in the Senior event! They tested themselves against excellent competition and the extra practice will serve them well next week as they embark on their League campaigns. Furthermore, they have helped to raise much-needed revenue for our club at a time when we are looking at increasing revenues.
I am aware of several regular tournament entrants from our club who were not able to enter on this occasion for very good reasons but I am sure that several of you thought about it and then decided not to enter. Next time take up thechallenge. Hugh and Cherry work tirelessly on your behalf. As well as raising much needed funds which keep our fees down they are giving the club a high profile in the table-tennis world. Take up the challenge. Help your club and yourselves and enter the next tournament on 30th October.
