How do I become a coach?

E-mail Print PDF

If you want to qualify as a coach, you should look to take a UK Coaching Certificate in table tennis.  If you plan to work in a Club, offer one to one coaching ,and be registered on the ETTA Coaching database, then a UKCC qualification is a must.  If you wish to be on the ETTA coaching list, you will also need to apply for an ETTA coaching license at a current cost of £12 per annum.  Part of this cost goes towards providing personal insurance cover for the coach.

The ETTA is a Recognised Centre to deliver the 1st4sport Certificates in Coaching Table Tennis at Levels 1, 2 and 3, which are endorsed through the UK Coaching Certificate programme. They are also working in partnership with other sports and the University of Central Lancashire to develop the Level 4 qualification. These qualifications replace the previous ETTA Coach Level 2, 3 and 4 awards, which are no longer available.

Candidates who are new to coaching must normally start at Level 1 before progressing to Levels 2, 3 and 4.

For further information, see the ETTA website here.

Course Registration and Candidate Fees are:
Level 1:                £160
Level 2:                £270
Level 2 Bridge:   £118

While the Club can make no promises, it has a history of supporting any member who wants to qualify as a coach by making a financial contribution, when the bank balance permits.  The Leamington League will also consider making a contribution.
